Northern Illinois had just 244 yards of total offense and converted just 2 of 15 third downs in a 40- 10 loss to Central Michigan on Wednesday night at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb.

The Huskies’ lone touchdown came with 11 seconds left in the game when Andrew Haidet found Dennis Robinson for a 31- yard score.

Ohio State- Maryland game canceled

The pandemic wrecked more plans across college football on Wednesday, with No. 12 Georgia at Missouri becoming the fourth game postponed in the Southeastern Conference alone and No. 3 Ohio State’s visit to Maryland canceled because of a coronavirus outbreak among the Terrapins, the third Big Ten game to be called off.

While the SEC will assess rescheduling options, there are no open dates built into the Big Ten’s nine- week schedule, and teams must play at least six games to qualify to play for the league championship. The Buckeyes are now down to seven games at most and No. 13 Wisconsin, which was favored to meet the Buckeyes in the league championship game, has already had two games canceled because of its own outbreak.

No. 24 Auburn at Mississippi State; No. 1 Alabama at LSU; and No. 5 Texas A& M at Tennessee were all called off earlier this week. Both the Tigers- Bulldogs and AggiesVols games were rescheduled for Dec. 12.

PSU RB retires due to heart condition

Penn State running back Journey Brown says he has a heart condition that is forcing him to give up football. Brown posted on Twitter that he has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy,

a disease that causes heart muscle to become abnormally thick and can make it more difficult to pump blood.

Neither Penn State nor Brown indicated whether he tested positive for COVID- 19, but the Big Ten requires cardiac screening and testing of those athletes who do before they can return to competition.

Brown was Penn State’s leading rusher in 2019 and was expected to be one of the best backs in the country in 2020.

LSU QB Brennan likely out for season

LSU quarterback Myles Brennan, who is dealing with an abdominal/ hip injury, is unlikely to return this season. Brennan started the first three games, throwing 11 touchdowns and three interceptions.

Wisconsin QB Mertz might play Saturday

Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz is still in the COVID- 19 protocol, but could return Saturday against Michigan if he gets clearance from the team’s medical staff. Backup quarterback Chase Wolf also tested positive
