Heat open purse for Adebayo

-

Big man Bam Adebayo and the Eastern Conference champion Heat agreed on a fiveyear extension that will be worth at least $163 million, the team and Adebayo’s agent said Tuesday. The contract has not been signed and won’t be until Adebayo completes a physical, likely in the next few days.

It will be the richest contract in terms of total value in Heat history.

Adebayo will make $5.1 million this coming season, the final year of his rookie contract. From there, the extension will kick in with a starting salary of somewhere around $28.1 million for the 2021-22 season. And if he makes an All-NBA team or wins another top leaguewide honor this season, his annual salary would only rise more.

Pelicans lock up Ingram, Adams

Restricted free-agent forward Brandon Ingram, the NBA’s Most Improved Player, agreed to a five-year, $158 million contract to stay with the Pelicans. He averaged a teamhigh 23.8 points in his first season with them.

The Pelicans and veteran center Steven Adams also agreed to a reported two-year, $35 million extension after he was acquired as part of a four-team deal with the Thunder, Bucks and Nuggets that also sent guard Jrue Holiday from the Pelicans to the Bucks. Guard Eric Bledsoe goes from the Bucks to the Pelicans, who also get the Bucks’ firstround draft choices in 2025 and 2027, along with the right to swap first-rounders with the Bucks in 2024 and 2026.

The Bucks also re-signed guard Pat Connaughton to a three-year deal worth nearly $16 million.

Elsewhere in free agency . . .

The Kings elected not to match the Hawks’ four-year, $72 million offer sheet for guard Bogdan Bogdanovic.

† As expected, the Lakers signed veteran Spanish center Marc Gasol, trading starting center JaVale McGee to the Cavaliers to make room under the salary cap.

† Guard Brad Wanamaker signed with the Warriors.

† Veteran guard Wayne Ellington agreed to terms with the Pistons.
