Huskies-Demons game postponed

DePaul and Northern Illinois will not play their scheduled men’s basketball game Thursday at Wintrust Arena, the Blue Demons announced Monday.

The Demons paused basketball activities Nov. 19 and canceled their first three games. The school said Thursday’s postponeme­nt “was deemed necessary by DePaul Athletics’ medical personnel to ensure a period of conditioni­ng necessary to safely return to competitio­n.”

DePaul said it hopes to reschedule the game later this season. The Demons now are scheduled to open the season Sunday at Iowa State as part of the Big 12-Big East Battle. The game is scheduled to tip off at 5 p.m. on ESPNU.

† Race Thompson set career highs with 22 points and 13 rebounds, Al Durham added 19 points and Indiana (2-0) beat Providence 79-58 in Asheville, North Carolina, in the relocated Maui Invitation­al. Thompson, who’s in his fourth year in the program, recorded his first career double- double. Nate Watson and David Duke each scored 12 points for Providence (1-1).

† Courtney Ramey had the go-ahead driving score with 20 seconds left as No. 17 Texas edged Davidson 78-76 in the opening game of the Maui Invitation­al. After Ramey’s basket, the Longhorns (2-0) came up with a pair of stops on the final possession. Ramey led Texas with 14 points. Sam Mennenga had a game-high 17 for Davidson (1-1).

† Tuesday night’s game between Maryland (3-0) and in-state foe Towson has been canceled after a positive test among the Towson support staff.

† In women’s action, freshman Kendall Holmes scored a career-high 23 points off the bench, Lexi Held and Sonya Morris added 21 points apiece and No. 20 DePaul (1-1) rolled to a 128-66 win over Chicago State. It was the highest-scoring game in program history, surpassing 124 points against Savannah State on Nov. 26, 2018. Nadia ThormanMcK­ey scored 18 points for the Cougars (0-2).
