Creighton wallops DePaul

Christian Bishop, Marcus Zegarowski and Denzel Mahoney led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points apiece, and No. 13 Creighton steamrolle­d DePaul 77-53 in Big East action Wednesday in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Bluejays (17-5, 13-4 Big East) had no trouble extending their winning streak against the Blue Demons (4-11, 2-11) to 14 games. They shot 49.1% from the field and held DePaul to 35.5%.

The Blue Demons, who played without guard Javon Freeman-Liberty (concussion) and center Nick Ongenda (right ankle) led 18-13 with 8:27 left in the first half before Creighton took command. The Bluejays used a 32-7 burst spanning halftime to open a 45-25 advantage and led by as many as 30 late.

Romeo Weems and Charlie Moore each scored nine points to lead DePaul, which committed 16 turnovers and shot only three free throws in the game.

Rutgers 74, Indiana 63

Geo Baker and Ron Harper Jr. each scored 20 points, and Baker also handed out 10 assists to fuel the Scarlet Knights (13-9, 9-9 Big Ten) past the Hoosiers (12-11, 7-9) in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Baker made six three-pointers and Harper four for Rutgers, which trailed 23-8 midway through the first half before using a 25-6 spurt to take control. The Scarlet Knights also got 10 points and 10 rebounds from Myles Johnson and 10 points and seven assists from Jacob Young.

Trayce Jackson-Davis had 21 points and 11 rebounds and Al Durham 20 points for Indiana, which was held to 36.1% shooting from the field.

Marquette 83, North Carolina 70

Dawson Garcia scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, D.J. Carton added 17 points and the Golden Eagles (11-12) handed the Tar Heels (14-8) a rare nonconfere­nce home loss in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It was only North Carolina’s 18th non-Atlantic Coast Conference defeat in the 35-year history of the Dean E. Smith Center.
