Coors to get Star game

-

ESPN reported Monday that Coors Field in Denver is expected to host the All-Star Game in July after Major League Baseball opted last week to move the game out of Atlanta because of voting laws passed in Georgia last month. It will be the first time the home of the Rockies will host the game since 1998.

The All-Star Game originally was scheduled for July 13 at Truist Park, the home of the Braves. But MLB said Friday it decided to relocate the game because of a new Georgia law that has civil-rights groups concerned about its potential to restrict voting access for people of color.

Tatis leaves after getting hurt on swing

Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. hurt himself while taking a hard swing in the third inning and immediately left the game against the visiting Giants. Tatis winced in pain as he fell to the ground after striking out and cradled his left arm while he got up. Two trainers helped hold his left arm against his body as he was helped off the field.

Reds’ Castellanos suspended two games

MLB suspended Reds outfielder Nick Castellanos for two games and fined him an undisclosed amount for precipitating an onfield brawl Saturday by flexing and jawing at Cardinals reliever Jake Woodford after scoring on a wild pitch. He appealed the suspension, then hit a home run in a 5-3 victory against the visiting Pirates.

This and that

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott backed out of throwing the ceremonial first pitch for the Rangers’ home opener against the Blue Jays in protest of MLB’s decision last week to move the All-Star Game out of Atlanta over Georgia’s new voting-rights law. The Blue Jays won 6-2 before a crowd of 38,283, the largest for a major-league game since before the pandemic.

† The Braves signed former Cubs righthander Carl Edwards Jr. and former White Sox infielder Yolmer Sanchez to minorleague contracts.
