Still no word on LaVine’s return

The PlayStation 5 needs to start treating Bulls guard Zach LaVine better these days.

At least that’s how it sounded when coach Billy Donovan was asked for an update Monday on LaVine’s condition.

‘‘Well, just in my dialogue from him, he’s extremely bored right now,’’ Donovan said of his recent discussions with LaVine, an avid gamer. ‘‘That came across loud and clear.’’

LaVine missed his third consecutive game Monday against the Celtics after the Sun-Times reported he had tested positive for the coronavirus. Donovan indicated there was still no timetable for his return.

‘‘I think that whatever he has to fulfill inside the NBA and their protocols and their league protocols, we’ll have to follow,’’ Donovan said. ‘‘The medical [staff ] is dealing with that with him and the league. Because we’ve been out of town, he’s obviously back home right now in Chicago. And I’m not really quite sure what the next steps will be for him.’’

After a road game Wednesday against the Cavaliers and a home game Thursday against the Hornets, the Bulls will visit the Heat for two games and the Knicks for one.

LaVine might be able to fly out and meet the team on the road, but considering the testing he has to go through, the cardiac screening he has to pass and just getting his legs back under him, he realistically might miss at least eight games.

‘‘Hopefully we’ll find out more from the league and from our medical staff about the next steps that we need to take,’’ Donovan said.
