-

Carol Gay Shoff-Basch, age 90, of Chicago, passed away peacefully at home with family at her side on August 3. Wife to the Late Dr. Michael Franz Basch; sister to Steven (Gail) Shoff; special cousin to Stanley (Barbara) Shoff; mother of Drs. Gail (Eric) Basch-Adelstein and Drs. Thomas (Karen) and John (Terrianne) Basch; loving grandmother of Tyler, Samuel, Daniel, Erik, Matthew, Kyle, and Emma, aunt to Laura, Wendy, and Susan; surrogate aunt to Flynn.

Carol was a talented musician (piano and coloratura soprano) and later, a practicing Doctor of Psychology and talented therapist well into her eighties. The consummate professional, she shared both her profound practical wisdom and her contagious, unstoppable drive to excel with her clients. However, it was in her unwavering dedication to her grandchildren and nieces where Carol truly blossomed. She remained their fount of unconditional love, fun, and support until the very end. Carol was a close and loyal friend and colleague to those fortunate enough to know her well; they will remember her as energetic, educated, sophisticated, and independent. Wherever she went, Carol carried herself with elegance, style, and a rare personal code of honor that will continue to set the standard. Private inurnment at Lake Forest Cemetery alongside dear friends. Donations may be sent in Carol’s name to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The family will host a small gathering later in the year for friends and family.
