Person fatally shot on CTA Red Line train in Englewood

A person was shot and killed Thursday afternoon on a CTA Red Line train in Englewood.

About 4:20 p.m., a male was on the train traveling in the 200 block of West Garfield Boulevard when three people approached him and one of them fired shots, Chicago police said.

The male was struck in the arm and died at a hospital, police said.

4 shot inside Bronzevill­e business

Four men were wounded in a shooting Thursday afternoon inside a business in Bronzevill­e on the South Side.

They were in a business about 4:10 p.m. in the 300 block of East 47th Street when two people opened fire, Chicago police said.

A 30-year-old man was struck in the chest and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

One man, 36, suffered gunshot wounds to the head and ankle, and another man, 36, was hit in the wrist, police said. The fourth victim, a 60-year-old man, was struck in the thigh, police said. They were taken to the same hospital and all listed in good condition.

1 dead, 2 injured after vehicle crashes into Calumet City bus stop

A person was killed and two others injured after a vehicle crashed into a bus stop Thursday in south suburban Calumet City.

The vehicle drove off the road about 2 p.m. at the intersecti­on of Sibley Boulevard and Torrence Avenue, hitting two people who were at a bus stop, Calumet City police said in a statement. The vehicle continued into a nearby parking lot and hit a constructi­on worker, police said.

One of the pedestrian­s who was struck at the bus stop was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The other two people who were hit were taken to a hospital.

Elgin man likely killed by bear in N.C.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The chief medical examiner in North Carolina determined that an Illinois man visiting the Great Smoky Mountains National Park last year was likely killed by a bear, the National Park Service said Thursday.

A park service statement said the death of Patrick Madura, 43, of far west suburban Elgin was the second bear-related fatality in the history of the park. Park rangers said at the time that backpacker­s discovered an unoccupied tent and saw the remains “with a bear scavenging in the area” on Sept. 11, 2020. The bear was located by rangers and killed.
