Jorik, Roberta G.

-

Roberta G. Jorik, 79, of Burlington, WI, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Pine Brook Pointe Assisted Living. Born on March 27, 1942 to Robert and Helaine (nee Drzyzga) Klos, she was a life-long Chicagoan, raised on the West Side in the Austin neighborhood. After graduating from Siena High School Magna Cum Laude (and as president of the Latin Honor Society), Roberta received a full scholarship to the Nursing School of Loyola University Chicago and graduated with honors (and an NCAA title-winning basketball team!) in 1964. After college, despite being a diehard White Sox fan, she lived on the North Side of Chicago in Rogers Park and Edison Park before spending 30 years in Des Plaines, Illinois. Roberta worked as an ICU nurse at Weiss Memorial Hospital as well as in several senior care facilities; she ultimately found her true calling in children’s home healthcare. She loved helping people and was generous beyond measure with both her time and modest income. She donated regularly to dozens of non-profit organizations such as Misericordia, Doctors Without Borders, World Wildlife Fund, St. Jude, The Chicago Food Depository and WBEZ. In retirement she volunteered several hours a week for the Des Plaines Public Library, Catholic Charities and Meals on Wheels. Those who knew her will remember her good humor, sharp wit (smart aleck!) and vast capacity for knowledge and trivia (knowit-all!). She was a voracious reader and she loved movies (especially those starring Kevin Costner), musicals and the arts. When not volunteering or working she could be found sunbathing with her nose in periodical, gardening on her balcony, making jam, shopping for holiday decorations and gifts or writing thoughtful cards to family, friends and even the mailman himself. Her spunk, smarts, sass and sweetness will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. Roberta is survived by her daughter, Melanie Bates and her sister, Janet Klos. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Judith Sus and George Klos. In Lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to one of the organizations she worked closely with; she would really love that:
