Unseeded Leylah Fernandez, who turned 19 on Monday, advanced to the women’s semifinals of the U.S. Open with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) upset Tuesday of fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina in New York.

Fernandez, who upset defending champion Naomi Osaka in the third round and Angelique Kerber in the fourth, next will face second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated eighth-seeded Barbora Krejcikova 6-1, 6-4.

Second-seeded Daniil Medvedev and 12thseeded Felix Auger-Aliassime reached the men’s semifinals. Medvedev earned a 6-3, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 victory against qualifier Botic van de Zandschulp, and Auger-Aliassime was leading 6-3, 3-1 when 18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz retired with an injury to his right leg.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL Gonzaga coach Few cited for DUI

Gonzaga coach Mark Few was cited for driving under the influence late Monday around Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, according to a police report obtained by the SpokesmanR­eview of Spokane, Washington.

Upon pulling Few over for speeding and driving erraticall­y, police said he exhibited ‘‘several signs of intoxicati­on’’ and had a blood-alcohol content of .119 and .120 in two samples. The legal limit is .08.

AUTO RACING Busch fined $50K for reckless behavior

NASCAR fined driver Kyle Busch $50,000 for recklessly entering the garage area after a crash Sunday during a race in Darlington, South Carolina. A frustrated Busch ran over several safety cones at a considerab­le speed as spectators scurried out of the way.

GOLF Rahm is PGA of America’s player of year

Reigning U.S. Open champion Jon Rahm won the points-based player-of-the-year award from the PGA of America, edging runner-up Bryson deChambeau 75-70. Rahm also topped the PGA Tour money list.
