Bell finds new home with Ravens

-

The Ravens reportedly signed three-time Pro Bowl running back Le’Veon Bell to their practice squad Tuesday to help their injuryfilled backfield. It is expected that he will be elevated to the 53-man roster soon.

The team lost J.K. Dobbins (torn ACL) and Justice Hill (torn Achilles) in the preseason. The only healthy backs on the roster are Gus Edwards and Ty’Son Williams. Of course, the team’s top rusher is quarterback Lamar Jackson, who led the team with 1,005 yards last season.

Bell, who worked out for the team Monday, was a three-time 1,000-yard rusher in his five years with the Steelers (2013-17). He sat out 2018 because of a contract dispute, before playing with the Jets in 2019, and the Jets and Chiefs in 2020.

Broncos’ Chubb has legal issues

Broncos Pro Bowl linebacker Bradley Chubb was detained on a warrant for failing to appear in a Colorado court last month to face traffic-related charges. Douglas County Sheriff ’s Sgt. Jeff Miller said Chubb was pulled over for speeding Tuesday morning, and it was discovered he had an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on traffic offenses. He had been cited for having expired license plates and for misdemeanor driving under restraint on May 6. A warrant was issued for his arrest Aug. 6 when Chubb failed to appear in court on those charges.

This and that

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is hopeful All-Pro outside linebacker T.J. Watt will be available for the opener Sunday at the Bills.

The three-time Pro Bowler is entering the final year of his contract and negotiations on a possible extension are ongoing. Watt didn’t play during the preseason and did not participate in 11-on-11 drills during training camp. The sticking point reportedly is the Steelers’ refusal to guarantee the extension beyond the first year.

The Saints cut running back Latavius Murray after he reportedly refused to take a pay cut. He was set to make $3.15 million this season. In 15 games in 2020, he gained 656 yards, second to Alvin Kamara (932 yards).
