U.S., FAMILIES REACH $127M SETTLEMENT IN PARKLAND SHOOTING

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The families of most of those killed and wounded in the 2018 Florida high school massacre announced Monday have reached a multimilli­on-dollar settlement with the federal government over the FBI’s failure to stop the gunman even though it had received informatio­n he intended to attack.

Attorneys for 16 of the 17 killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland and some of those wounded said they have reached a monetary settlement. A person familiar with the deal said the government will pay the families $127.5 million overall.

Fox News contributo­rs quit

NEW YORK — Two writers who have been paid contributo­rs to Fox News Channel have resigned, citing Tucker Carlson’s “Patriot Purge” documentar­y on last January’s U.S. Capitol insurrecti­on as a last straw for them.

Jonah Goldberg and Stephen Hayes, who put out a Substack newsletter on conservati­ve news called The Dispatch, had both worked for Fox since 2009.

‘Overwhelmi­ng evidence’ against Cuomo, report finds

ALBANY, N.Y. — A New York legislativ­e investigat­ion released Monday found “overwhelmi­ng evidence” that former Gov. Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed women and that he ordered state workers to help produce his book on pandemic leadership during work hours.

Drivers stop for cash on I-5

CARLSBAD, Calif. — Drivers scrambled to grab cash Friday morning after bags of money fell out of an armored truck on a Southern California freeway, authoritie­s said. The incident occurred shortly before 9:15 a.m. on Interstate 5 in Carlsbad.

“One of the doors popped open and bags of cash fell out,” California Highway Patrol Sgt. Curtis Martin said.

Video posted online showed some people laughing as they held wads of cash.

Two people were arrested at the scene, and Martin warned that any others who are found to have taken the money could face criminal charges.
