Five teens were shot, one fatally, in a driveby involving a stolen car Tuesday afternoon in Back of the Yards on the South Side.

The group was standing outside in the 4800 block of South Ada Street about 4:30 p.m. when gunmen approached in a stolen red Mazda and opened fire, Chicago police said.

A man, 19, was shot in the left side of the body and head, officials said, adding that he was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name hadn’t been released yet.

A 16-year-old boy was shot in the left shoulder, arm, face and ankle and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

Another man, 18, was shot in the right hip and left knee and taken to Mount Sinai in critical condition, officials said.

A second 18-year-old man was shot in the right leg and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition, authorities said.

A second 16-year-old boy was grazed in the right ankle but refused medical attention, police said.

The suspects left the scene and crashed a few blocks northwest in the 4500 block of South Marshfield Avenue, Chicago Police Cmdr. Don Jerome said to reporters Tuesday. No one from the car was reported in custody.

As officers attempted to perform life-saving measures on the victims, they were met by a “hostile crowd” with some members “actively fighting” officers, Jerome said. No officers were reported injured.

Two suspects were arrested shortly after fighting with officers, Jerome said.

A SWAT team was called to help search for suspects, but there were no reports of a standoff, officials said, adding that three weapons were recovered.

Officers were looking at video footage of the shooting, Jerome said.

Shortly after the shooting, there were several shots fired in the area, but it was unclear if the incidents were connected.

Jerome told reporters rival gangs are known to fight in the area, and police don’t believe the community was targeted.

Officers searched for suspects in an alley where 22-year-old Jamarion Loston was found fatally shot less than a week earlier.

Children were seen playing near an open fire hydrant about a half block from where the shooting occurred.
