Rodgers might reveal plans today
All signs point to Aaron Rodgers announcing Wednesday on “The Pat McAfee Show” where he’ll play next season. The show begins at noon on YouTube.
McAfee said Tuesday that the Packers quarterback would return to the show where he made weekly appearances during the regular season. Speculation is rampant that Rodgers is on the verge of being traded to the Jets, who met with him last week in Malibu, California.
Helping fuel that speculation is the Jets’ signing of former Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard, one of Rodgers’ favorite targets. Lazard agreed to a four-year, $44 million contract, reuniting him with former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who’s now the Jets’ OC. Rodgers’ arrival would add to the reunion.
In fact, according to ESPN, Rodgers gave the Jets a list of free agents he’d like them to pursue, and it included Lazard. Also reportedly on the list are former Packers receiver Randall Cobb and tight end Marcedes Lewis, as well as Odell Beckham Jr.
Panthers signing QB Dalton
The Panthers found their stop-gap quarterback, agreeing to a two-year, $10 million contract with unrestricted free agent Andy Dalton. The deal includes $8 million in guaranteed money. The Panthers traded up last week with the Bears to get the No. 1 pick in the draft and are almost certain to use it on a quarterback, a position that has seen repeated turnover the past five seasons in Carolina.
Colts plan to release QB Ryan
The Colts reportedly will release quarterback Matt Ryan in a cost-cutting move, saving them about $17.2 million in salary-cap charges and giving them about $30 million of cap space. The Colts hold the No. 4 overall pick in the draft, and most analysts expect them to select a quarterback.
Cowboys add CB Gilmore, re-sign two
The Cowboys acquired five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore from the Colts for a 2023 fifth-round draft pick. Gilmore will pair with two-time Pro Bowl winner Trevon Diggs. The Cowboys also are bringing back leading tackler Donovan Wilson on a threeyear, $24 million deal
Other deals
All-Pro cornerback James Bradberry is returning to the Eagles on a three-year deal worth $38 million, including $20 million guaranteed.
Tight end Darren Waller was traded to the Giants, who will send the Raiders a 2023 third-round draft pick.
Former Patriots wide receiver Jakobi Meyers agreed to a three-year, $33 million deal with the Raiders.
The Falcons are bringing back offensive tackle Kaleb McGary on a three-year, $34.5 million deal.
The Vikings are finalizing a two-year, $22 million deal with former Cardinals cornerback Byron Murphy.
Cornerback Emmanuel Moseley agreed to a one-year, $6 million contract with the Lions.
