Mcmichael released from hospital

- Sun-Times staff and wires

Eight days after he was taken to the emergency room of a hospital in New Lenox, former Bears defensive tackle Steve McMichael went home Friday.

McMichael, a member of the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame class, has ALS and can’t talk or move on his own. His wife, Misty, feared last week that he had pneumonia and called an ambulance. Doctors diagnosed him with a urinary-tract infection, gave him three antibiotics and expected him to go home soon.

McMichael’s stay lengthened, however, when he was diagnosed with MRSA, an antibiotic-resistant staph infection, last Saturday. He responded well to medication for MRSA, though, and he was allowed to return to his home in Homer Glen with two intravenous antibiotics to fight his infections.

Misty McMichael told the Sun-Times this week that the goal is for her husband to live ‘‘at least till Canton.’’ The Hall’s induction ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 3 in Canton, Ohio.

NBA butler tossed in heat victory

Heat star Jimmy Butler was among four players (two per side) ejected after a scuffle in the fourth quarter of the team’s 106-95 victory against the host Pelicans. He had 23 points and nine rebounds before being tossed.

Multiple outlets reported the Warriors and coach Steve Kerr agreed to terms on a twoyear, $35 million contract extension that runs through 2025-26.

It would be a record for annual value for a coach.
