Book recommendations from the Biblioracle
John Warner tells you what to read based on the last five books you’ve read.
1. “Skippy Dies” by Paul Murray 2. “Valentine” by Elizabeth Wetmore 3. “Rodham” by Curtis Sittenfeld 4. “Chemistry” by Weike Wang 5. “My Wife Said You May Want to Marry Me” by Jason Rosenthal — Sheri G., Skokie
So apparently, Sheri took my recommendation of “Skippy Dies” during the Biblioracle Live event and ran with it and she loved it, so this time, I’m going to go for something personal, and also tell everyone that Sheri and I think you should read “Skippy Dies.” I think Brit Bennett’s recently published stunner,
“The Vanishing Half,” is a good fit.
1. “The Alice Network” by Kate Quinn 2. “American Dirt” by Jeanine Cummins 3. “The Dutch House” by Ann Patchett 4. “Where the Crawdads Sing” by
Delia Owens 5. “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” by
Heather Morris — Rosemary C., Chicago
This request was sent to me by Rosemary’s daughter, Kathleen, on behalf of her almost 87-year-old mother who cuts out this column each week to use as a reference for book requests. How could I not include this in the week’s offerings? Rosemary enjoys getting invested in compelling characters, so my hope is that she’s not yet acquainted with Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan Novels series, which starts with “My Brilliant Friend.”
1. “Courtney’s War” by Wilbur Smith 2. “The Huntress” by Kate Quinn 3. “Life After Life” by Kate Atkinson 4. “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak 5. “And The Mountains Echoed” by
Khaled Hosseini — Louise P., Downers Grove
For Louise, I’m going with “The Round
House” by Louise Erdrich. It’s one of those novels that’s quiet in presentation with lots of power roiling underneath.
