AROUND THE HORN

-

■ Angels: Mike Trout became the Angels’ career home run leader and Jo Adell celebrated with a game-ending, two-run single in the seventh, lifting Los Angeles to a 10-9 victory over the Houston Astros in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

■ Astros: Star Jose Altuve was placed on the 10-day injured list before Saturday’s doubleheader against the Angels. The move is retroactive to Friday after the second baseman sprained his right knee while sliding into third base during Thursday’s game against the Rangers.

■ Athletics: Ramon Laureano homered to help Sean Manaea win his third straight start, and the A’s snapped a three-game losing streak by beating the Padres 8-4 on Saturday. Matt Olson hit a two-run triple and new addition Tommy La Stella had an RBI double for the A’s, pounded 7-0 on Friday night as they returned to the field following four postponed games because of Daniel Mengden’s positive coronavirus test.

■ Blue Jays: Shortstop Bo Bichette was set to hit in a simulated game against reliever Ken Giles before Toronto played at Boston. Bichette hasn’t played since Aug. 15.

■ Indians: Brewers closer Josh Hader allowed his first hit of the season, and then gave up Cesar Hernandez’s game-winning single in the ninth inning as the Indians beat the Brewers 4-3 on Saturday night.

■ Marlins: Sandy Alcantara allowed one run over six innings, Corey Dickerson homered for the second consecutive game and the Marlins beat the AL East-leading Rays 7-3 on Saturday night.

■ Nationals: The Nationals and general manager Mike Rizzo finalized a multiyear contract extension Saturday. The 59-year-old Rizzo, who also holds the title of president of baseball operations, built the team that won the 2019 World Series championship. The Nationals have won four NL East titles, most recently in 2017. They won the last season’s World Series after making the playoffs as a wild card.

■ Orioles: Outfielder Anthony Santander has a strained oblique and likely will miss the remainder of the season. Santander has been one of the best players on a rebuilding team that has performed above expectations following two straight 100-loss seasons. With three weeks to go in the abbreviated 60-game schedule, the Orioles are bracing for finishing without Santander, who was batting .261 to go with his team-leading 11 homers and 32 RBIs.

■ Twins: Miguel Sano’s power and Byron Buxton’s speed delivered the Twins’ fifth consecutive victory on Saturday, 4-3 over the Tigers. With the Twins trailing 3-1 in the seventh, Sano slammed a 414-foot home run off the second deck in left field to close the gap to one run. Sano then drove in the tying run in the bottom of the ninth with a sharp single to left field. And with two outs, Buxton hit a ground ball to shortstop and beat Willi Castro’s throw, allowing Nelson Cruz to score the gamewinning run as Buxton shouted with joy.
