“Race for the White House”

(9 p.m., 12 a.m., CNN): The new episode “Carter vs. Ford” looks back to the presidential election of 1976, which pits the political establishment, represented by Republican President Gerald Ford, against the sunny idealism of Democrat Jimmy Carter, the governor of Georgia who initially is dismissed by opponents as “a peanut farmer.” Ford, who ascended to the presidency in the wake of Richard Nixon’s resignation, is seeking his first elected term as president, but Ford’s pardon of his presidential predecessor remains a sore point for voters.

“The Masked Singer” (7 p.m., FOX): Season 4 doesn’t kick off officially until Sept. 23, but Fox offers the show’s legion of fans a sneak peek tonight in this new onehour special. Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke and Jenny McCarthy all return as the show’s panel of “celebrity detectives” tasked with unmasking the ornately costumed mystery performers.

“Sinfidelity” (7 p.m., 11:01 p.m., Lifetime): Married to a serial philanderer, an exasperated Angela (Jade Tailor, “The Magicians”) spots signs that hubby Greg (Mark Sullivan) is feeling that familiar itch once again, so she lets her best friend persuade Angela to have a revenge fling with the steamy Franco (Aidan Bristow). She regrets that move almost immediately, though, when Angela discovers she misread her husband’s actions. Worse, Franco wants to continue their affair. Blythe Howard also stars in this 2020 thriller.

“Our Cartoon President” (7:30 p.m., 3:30 a.m., Showtime): American politics have become so surreal that it’s often hard to differentiate between reality and parody, which poses a challenge to this animated satirical comedy as it resumes Season 3 with new episodes leading up to the presidential election in November. Among the story lines for the cartoon counterparts this season, Eric and Don Trump Jr. team up with Elon Musk and MyPillow founder Mike Lindell.

“Halloween Wars” (8 p.m., 11 p.m., Food): Preceded by the one-hour casting special “Road to Halloween Wars 2020,” this perennial fan favorite returns with host Jonathan Bennett to open Season 10, with six new teams consisting of a pumpkin carver, cake artist and sugar master fighting for glory by creating edible Halloween displays. In the premiere, “Monster Road Trip,” the teams create delicious and imaginative displays depicting Halloween haunts hitting the road for a trip.

“Lovecraft Country” (8 p.m., 10 p.m., 12 a.m., HBO): After making a Faustian bargain with William (Jordan Patrick Smith), Ruby (Wunmi Mosaku) finds herself walking in the charmed and privileged shoes of a white woman in Jim Crow-era America, but the experience only heightens her bitter resentment over the racial divide in the new episode “Strange Case.” Atticus’ (Jonathan Majors) long-simmering rage is triggered after Montrose (Michael Kenneth Williams) betrays him, driving the latter into the comforting arms of his secret lover.

“The Osbournes Want to Believe” (9 p.m., 1 a.m., TRAVEL): Jack makes Sharon and Ozzy start to question their sense of reality with footage of a levitating girl and full-body apparitions caught on government cameras in the new episode “See You on the Other Side.” The family trio also watches some disconcertingly convincing video evidence of UFOs, creepy dolls and some of dad Ozzy’s favorite: poltergeists.
