Hughland Joseph Zick August 2, 1931-May 23, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our father, just nine months after we lost our mother. Preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Laura Zick, and his wife Rita Marie, nee Keleher. He is survived by three children, Steven, Dianne B. James and Robert (Kim) Lemke and five grandchildren. Born in Columbus, Wisconsin, dad was educated at Columbus High School and earned a BS from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and an MBA from the University of Chicago. It was in Hyde Park where he met and married our dear mom in 1959.

Dad served as a captain in the U.S. Military Police (where his roommate was actor Rip Torn), was a CPA, a member of Mensa, and started his career at Price Waterhouse and Montgomery Ward before segueing into running subsidiaries that specialized in leasing heavy equipment, oil tankers and airliners for various companies which enjoyed tax benefits by leasing the equipment to lessees such as Eastern Airlines. He started or ran these subsidiaries for Greyhound, American Fletcher National Bank and HSBC.

In many ways an indulgent parent, he permitted his children to drag home animals of every stripe and description, drawing the line only at a boa constrictor. With mom, he kept and rode horses throughout

their 62-year marriage, a cherished hobby for them both.

He was the rock and glue of the family and no one could have shown greater or more heartfelt pride in

their children or grandchildren or imbued in them a greater sense of feeling supported and secure. Services with full military honors have been held. Info: donnellanfuneral.com or 847-675-1990.
