Roberts, Joyce Faith (Jay)

-

Born in Chicago, Illinois on November 9, 1927 Departed on July 7, 2023 and resided in Los Angeles, California

With sadness, love, and gratitude, the family of Joyce Faith (“Jay”) Roberts (nee Lippman) announced her passing on July 7, 2023 at the age of 95. After growing up in Chicago, Illinois, she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, and lived for many years in Indianapolis, Cambridge, Massachusetts and Los Angeles, California.

Jay was the mother of 4 daughters (Katherine Rettinger, who preceded her in death, Pamela Rikkers, Holly Zickler, and Melissa Zickler). She had 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. An only child, she was very proud that so many people had come from just one person.

She was a homemaker and writer in the field of advertising and romance stories and novels. She earned higher degrees in English Literature and Social Work, and remained an avid, discerning and excited reader throughout her life. She was truly interested in the world and enjoyed traveling, seeing things, experiencing new places.

Jay loved her family and cared deeply about their welfare and happiness and was always generous with them. She was funny, reacting with quick wit to life around her, and made people laugh and delighted in doing that. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, hosting festive holiday meals, and just driving around, talking, being a part of their lives for things large and small.

She cared about the world, politics, racial justice and hoped that alien life would be discovered on other planets in her lifetime and that true racial equality would come to pass. She had a tremendous influence on all who knew and loved her. Arrangements were entrusted to Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary.
