Chicken Coops and Playgrounds

Did you Say PLAYGROUNDS?

-

Chickens can be more than amusing to watch. The funny noises they make and even their awkward waddle are sure to entertain you on a slow day, or even on a day when you have a lot of chores. But a bored chicken can be a difficult chicken. Just like people, bored chickens get into trouble. They start pecking at one another or worse, cannibalize their kin. That is why offering creative playgrounds and coops can be such a benefit to the keeper.

People who build playgrounds for their poultry aren’t overly wealthy or whimsical, though they certainly can be, but they are creative and know how to think outside of the coop when it comes to caring for their flock.

In this issue of Chicken Coops & Playgrounds, we will detail everything from hatching chicks (page 16) and basic brooder builds (page 20), to decorating your coop (page 60), building a chicken playground (page 78) and more. We will also touch on housing styles (page 28) and helpful upkeep tips (page 88).

It doesn’t matter if you have a small backyard or a sprawling pasture, every chicken keeper can get creative with housing options and entertainment for “the ladies.” Give them a great environment, and they will continue to thrive and produce healthy eggs for you.
