China and ASEAN are currently each other’s top trading partner. Hong Kong and Thailand are prime gateways to GBA and RCEP, respectively. We have the perfect match in the policy direction of Hong Kong and Thailand in the areas of advanced green technology and innovation and life and health sciences.

As the theme of the conference suggest, I believe connecting GBA with RCEP will unlock enormous opportunities and prosperity, not only for Guangdong, Hong Kong or Macao, but also for RCEP member countries. I believe this cooperation will rise as a global economic force in the future.

Since the start of China’s reform and opening-up, the GBA has been an important window facilitating China’s integration with the world. The GBA’s strong economic fundamentals combined with RCEP’s goal of a more stable and predictable business environment will provide the much needed impetus as the world economy begins to open by shoring up business confidence that could lead to new opportunities for trade and investment.
