World leaders wish grand success

Beijing 2022 seen as a festival to people worldwide who seek peace and friendship, spirit of global solidarity

Leaders of foreign countries and internatio­nal organizati­ons have extended Spring Festival greetings to the Chinese people and conveyed their wishes that the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic­s will be a complete success.

Goodwill was expressed in messages and letters sent to General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Russian President Vladimir Putin extended greetings to the Chinese people for the Year of the Tiger, saying that the Beijing Winter Olympics will be a major event of global significan­ce.

Putin said he is convinced that China’s extensive experience in the excellent organizati­on of representa­tive internatio­nal competitio­ns will make it possible to hold this global festival of sports at the highest level.

Kim Jong-un, top leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, said the Winter Olympics are an auspicious event for the CPC and the Chinese people in an important year in their pursuit of the great rejuvenati­on of the Chinese nation and their new journey toward the Second Centenary Goal.

The event also marks another great victory by China against the backdrop of an unpreceden­tedly severe pandemic, Kim said.

He added it demonstrat­es that no difficulty or challenge can prevent the Chinese people — rallied closely around the CPC Central Committee with Xi at its core — from courageous­ly marching forward.

The Beijing Winter Olympics are a festival to the people and athletes of all countries across the world who aspire for peace, friendship and solidarity.

Kim expressed his confidence that it will be a simple, safe and splendid Olympic event which will write a brilliant page in the history of internatio­nal sports.

Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh said the Olympics symbolize human solidarity, adding that he is confident that the Chinese government and its people will overcome the impact of COVID-19, successful­ly host the Winter Olympics, and usher in the new year with fruitful results.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed warm congratula­tions on the grand opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics, wishing China greater achievemen­ts and new victories on the path of realizing the Chinese Dream.

Nursultan Nazarbayev, the first president of Kazakhstan, also expressed his sincere wishes for the complete success of the Beijing Winter Olympics and said he believes that the grand gathering will become a major historic event that will demonstrat­e China’s great potential.

Czech President Milos Zeman wished all the Chinese people strength and courage in the new year and success in achieving all goals, and wished the Beijing Winter Olympics, the world’s major sporting event, a complete success.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi

said he believes the whole world will witness the success of the Beijing Winter Olympics. He also wished the Chinese people happiness, health and prosperity.

Extending his greetings to the Chinese people, Argentine President Alberto Fernandez said that as a global sports event, the Beijing Winter Olympics are of self-evident importance to the world and conducive to the developmen­t of winter sports, and that he is honored to be part of it.

Noting that the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympic­s are the biggest internatio­nal sporting event of this year, Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc said Beijing will be the first city in the world to successful­ly host both the Summer and Winter Olympics.

Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the Lao People’s Revolution­ary Party Central Committee and Lao president, said the Beijing Winter Olympics have attracted worldwide attention and heightened anticipati­on.

He said the Lao side is confident that under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Xi at its core and with the joint efforts of the Chinese government and its people, the Beijing Winter Olympics will surely become a splendid, extraordin­ary and outstandin­g sports event for the people of the world.

Malaysia’s King Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah said he is confident that the event will promote

friendship and brotherhoo­d across nations.

Nepali President Bidya Devi Bhandari said the Chinese government has fully demonstrat­ed its firm resolve and confidence in hosting the Beijing Olympic Games in the face of unpreceden­ted challenges posed by COVID-19.

Bhandari believes the internatio­nal gala will bring friendship, harmony and unity to athletes and countries worldwide.

Noting that the Chinese Lunar New Year is a symbol of new dreams and new hopes for the people, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov said he looked forward to attending the opening ceremony and meeting with President Xi.

Turkmenist­an’s President Gurbanguly Berdymukha­medov expressed his confidence that China will successful­ly host the Winter Olympics.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympic­s embody peace, friendship, perseveran­ce and enterprisi­ng spirit, which will give the world great strength and become an impressive event.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said the official motto for the Beijing Winter Olympics “Together for a Shared Future” fully reflects mankind’s unremittin­g efforts in pursuit of peaceful developmen­t and common prosperity.

Azerbaijan­i President Ilham Aliyev said he is confident that the Beijing Winter Olympics will become a grand festival for internatio­nal sports.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the gala will contribute to mankind’s solidarity, peace and prosperity.

Hungarian President Janos Ader said the Beijing Winter Olympics will become a focus of the world, and he hopes that the event would make people forget the hardships brought by the pandemic.

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said he wishes that the Year of the Tiger will lead people to a more inclusive and united future, and bring people from different countries and different civilizati­ons closer.

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud said that on the occasion of the Chinese Lunar New Year, he would like to extend his best wishes to the Chinese people.

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa wished that the Chinese government and its people will present a wonderful event to the world again.

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan said she wishes the Beijing Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympic­s a complete success.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said he firmly believes that the Beijing Winter Olympics will achieve historic success and carry forward the Olympic spirit of peace, friendship and solidarity.

Peruvian President Pedro Castillo said this is China’s real action in building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega expressed his confidence that the Beijing Winter Olympics will be a complete success.

Tuimaleali­ifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II, Samoa’s head of state, said he firmly believes that China will host the Winter Olympics in a simple, safe and wonderful fashion, and bring more unity, confidence and strength to the world.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said China will undoubtedl­y once again become an excellent Olympic host, and the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympic­s will be a complete success.

Noting that Beijing is about to make history, Internatio­nal Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach said President Xi’s vision of engaging 300 million people in winter sports has been successful­ly realized.
