World leaders congratula­te Xi

Greetings and warm wishes pour in for China’s president after his election to a new term

Congratula­tions from foreign leaders have poured in after Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, was elected president of the People’s Republic of China, and chairman of the Central Military Commission on March 10 at the first session of the 14th National People’s Congress, the nation’s top legislatur­e.

In a congratula­tory message sent to Xi, Russian President Vladimir Putin said “the decision by the National People’s Congress is a recognitio­n of your services as head of state and of the broad support for the course you have been pursuing to ensure China’s further socioecono­mic developmen­t and protect the nation’s interests in the internatio­nal arena”.

Putin noted that Russia highly appreciate­s Xi’s personal contributi­on to strengthen­ing the comprehens­ive strategic partnershi­p of coordinati­on between the two countries, saying: “I am confident that working together, we will ensure the further growth of fruitful Russian-Chinese cooperatio­n in various fields”.

The Russian president wished his Chinese counterpar­t continued success in his state duties for the benefit of the friendly Chinese nation.

Kim Jong-un, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, said in a congratula­tory message on March 10 that Xi’s election demonstrat­es the high degree of trust and support for Xi from the CPC, the Chinese government and people.

Kim expressed his confidence that under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Xi at the core, the Chinese people will make new victories in following and implementi­ng the decisions and policies adopted at the 20th CPC National Congress.

It is believed that the traditiona­l friendship and cooperativ­e relationsh­ip between the DPRK and China will be consistent­ly deepened and further developed in accordance with the common aspiration­s of the two parties and the two peoples as well as the requiremen­t of the new era, he said.

Recalling the heads of state meeting with Xi during the Group of 20 Summit last year, Republic of Korea President Yoon Suk-yeol said they had a conducive dialogue on the developmen­t of bilateral relations. Yoon said he hopes to continue to maintain close communicat­ion with Xi in the future and further deepen exchanges and cooperatio­n between the two countries.

Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the Lao People’s Revolution­ary Party Central Committee and Lao president, said in his message that Xi’s election as president by unanimous vote fully demonstrat­es that

Xi has won the heartfelt support and absolute trust from the whole of the Party, the entire armed forces and the people of all ethnic groups across China.

The Chinese people will make constant progress in promoting the cause of socialism with Chinese characteri­stics, realizing the second centenary goal as scheduled and the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenati­on of the Chinese nation, he added.

He also wished constant fruitful results to be made in the longstandi­ng and stable comprehens­ive strategic partnershi­p of cooperatio­n between the two countries and the constructi­on of the Laos-China community with a shared future.

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni congratula­ted Xi on the election, saying he is confident that with Xi’s vision, wisdom and strong leadership, China will surely build itself into a modern socialist country as scheduled.

Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and Vo Van Thuong, president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, sent their congratula­tory messages to Xi on March 10.

They expressed confidence that under the strong leadership of the

CPC Central Committee with Xi at the core, the Chinese people will make new achievemen­ts in comprehens­ively advancing Chinese modernizat­ion. They also voiced their will to further promote comprehens­ive strategic partnershi­p of the two neighbors.

Italian President Sergio Mattarella said in his congratula­tory message to President Xi that Italy and China have maintained close exchanges and strong friendship between the two peoples, demonstrat­ing the common desire to deepen mutually beneficial cooperatio­n and dialogue.

The two sides should seize the current opportunit­y to push for greater developmen­t of the comprehens­ive strategic partnershi­p between Italy and China, Mattarella said.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said he is confident that under Xi’s diligent, wise and visionary leadership, China will make new and impressive achievemen­ts in various fields. Serbia firmly supports the one-China principle and the policy of “one country, two systems”, Vucic said.

Argentine President Alberto Fernandez expressed his wishes that China will continue to move forward firmly under Xi’s leadership in his new term to achieve national prosperity

and people’s well-being.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said Xi is a great leader and a friend of the Venezuelan people, and that Venezuela is willing to work with China to further deepen bilateral cooperatio­n and build a community with a shared future for mankind.

President of the Central African Republic Faustin-Archange Touadera said he believes that under Xi’s strong leadership, the Chinese people will surely score one great victory after another in their new journey toward building a modern socialist country in all respects and advancing the great rejuvenati­on of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernizat­ion.

Comoros President Azali Assoumani said he expects China to play a greater leadership role in promoting stronger multilater­alism, and peace, security and progress around the world, especially in Africa.

The election reflects the trust of the Chinese people in Xi’s valuable contributi­ons to the cause of socialism, said First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez. Cuba is deeply honored for its intimate friendship with Xi, the CPC, the

Chinese government and the Chinese people, he added.

The wise decision-making by the Chinese president and the important resolution­s made at China’s two sessions have created solid foundation­s for China’s bright future and prosperity, said Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov said he believes that under the outstandin­g leadership of the CPC with Xi at its core, the Chinese people are bound to realize the grand blueprint of building a modern socialist country in all respects and promoting the great rejuvenati­on of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernizat­ion.

The election shows that Xi’s governing philosophy has won the support of the entire nation, said Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon. Under Xi’s wise leadership, China’s internatio­nal prestige and status have been continuous­ly lifted, Rahmon said.

Turkmenist­an President Serdar Berdimuham­edov said that under Xi’s leadership China has developed rapidly with its people’s living standards continuous­ly improving, and the country playing a constructi­ve

role in internatio­nal affairs.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that under Xi’s leadership, China has achieved unpreceden­ted developmen­t. China’s internatio­nal prestige has significan­tly improved, and it is becoming a strong nation in an all-round way, he said, adding that Xi’s reelection as Chinese president is a major event in Chinese history.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said he firmly believes that under Xi’s strong leadership, China will eventually achieve its Second Centenary Goal.

Brunei’s Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah said he believes that China will continue to play a constructi­ve role in global and regional affairs.

In his message, Indonesian President Joko Widodo called on Indonesia and China, strategic partners for each other, to further strengthen cooperatio­n and promote the prosperity of the two countries, so as to continue to contribute to regional peace and stability.

Palestinia­n President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his confidence that Xi will lead China and the Chinese people to make new success and achievemen­ts, and fulfill more establishe­d goals and visions.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud wished the friendly Chinese people continuous developmen­t and progress, saying the Saudi side is ready to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperatio­n in various fields.

Under President Xi Jinping’s leadership, friendly China has made remarkable achievemen­ts in various fields, and the ancient civilizati­on is taking on new vitality, said Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesi­nghe said that under Xi’s strong leadership, China has overcome challenges and achieved remarkable progress. Highlighti­ng the friendship between Sri Lanka and China that has lasted over a millennium, Wickremesi­nghe said he firmly believes that close cooperatio­n between the two countries will continue to advance and deliver more benefits to the two peoples.

Algerian President Abdelmadji­d Tebboune said he is ready to work with the Chinese side to raise the comprehens­ive strategic partnershi­p between the two countries to a higher level, so as to realize the common expectatio­ns and common interests of their people.

Kenyan President William Ruto said that his nation will continue to maintain close ties and cooperatio­n with China, as the two countries have done since the establishm­ent of diplomatic relations six decades ago.

Under Xi’s wise leadership, China has attained economic prosperity, and is entering a new stage of developmen­t, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa said, stressing that China has played a major role in the cause of global justice that is built on respect for countries’ sovereignt­y and diversity, and the realizatio­n of the common prosperity of humankind.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah

al-Sisi said he believes Xi will successful­ly lead China to greater prosperity and progress and looks forward to further developmen­t of the Egypt-China comprehens­ive strategic partnershi­p for the benefit of the two peoples.

Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki said he is confident that under Xi’s leadership, China will play an indispensa­ble and critical role in building a sound and healthy multilater­al global architectu­re.

Chairperso­n of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat said that Africa will remain firmly committed to strengthen­ing its partnershi­p with China.

President of Seychelles Wavel Ramkalawan said his country firmly supports the one-China policy and the efforts made by the Chinese government to safeguard national sovereignt­y and territoria­l integrity.

Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignt­y Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan expressed his belief that Xi will lead China to realize modernizat­ion in all respects through a Chinese path, adding that the successful convening of the “two sessions” in China shows the country will shoulder the common responsibi­lity of promoting world peace and developmen­t and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind with global and regional partners.

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema said that under Xi’s leadership, China has become a major player in the world economy and a model for socio-economic transforma­tion of developing countries, adding that Zambia looks forward to developing closer relations with China.

Xi’s election is of great significan­ce for defending the principles and values of fairness, justice, peace, security and developmen­t around the world, said Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, stressing that his country is willing to work with China to build a world that is fair, peaceful and safe and pursues happiness for people.

Finnish President Sauli Niinisto

said he is glad to see mutually beneficial cooperatio­n in various fields between Finland and China. Underling the vast potential for cooperatio­n between the two countries, Niinisto said he is looking forward to maintainin­g regular communicat­ion with Xi to strengthen Finland-China relations.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz extended his sincere congratula­tion on Xi’s election and wished the Chinese president greater success.

Singaporea­n Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that as China is entering a new stage of developmen­t, he is confident that Xi will continue to lead China to sustained developmen­t and prosperity. He said that he looks forward to working with Xi to take bilateral relations to a new level.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said under Xi’s visionary leadership, China and the great Chinese nation have made great achievemen­ts in the developmen­t of human causes.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said he firmly believes that Xi will continue to lead China to extraordin­ary achievemen­ts. The CambodiaCh­ina friendship is unbreakabl­e, and Cambodia is willing to work with China to build a Cambodia-China community with a shared future, he said.

Noting that this year marks the 45th anniversar­y of the signing of the Japan-China Treaty of Peace and Friendship, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said he would like to maintain communicat­ion with Xi and promote the building of constructi­ve and stable Japan-China relations.

Prime Minister of the Commonweal­th of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit said he is convinced that Xi, in his new term, will lead China to score greater achievemen­ts, continue to maintain its influence and play a constructi­ve role in internatio­nal affairs, and strive to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Xi’s vision of China’s

developmen­t has been yielding success, which has demonstrat­ed strong leadership in protecting multilater­alism, promoting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainabl­e Developmen­t and strengthen­ing the partnershi­p between China and the United Nations.

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said the regional bloc stands ready to further enhance the Arab-China strategic partnershi­p.

President of the Internatio­nal Olympic Committee Thomas Bach said under Xi’s leadership, Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic­s were a huge success.

As the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games are approachin­g, China will present the internatio­nal community with another world-class sporting event, Bach said.
