Ills of using women to sell goods

-

Photographs of skimpily dressed models at the recent Chengdu Motor Show in Sichuan province have been doing the rounds of the Internet and drawn widespread criticism. The photographs reflect the unhealthy use of women to make money and the abhorrent norms of competition that have come to rule the market, says an article in Xi’an Evening News. Excerpts:

The use of women’s beauty as a tool to make money should not cross the social bottom line. Experts warned a long time ago that companies that thrive on such gimmicks are fragile and short-lived.

But the use of women to advertise products continues unabated. To some extent, businessmen still rely on a woman’s beauty and body because they have failed to find innovative and better ways to promote their products.

If some element of beauty is still left in the so-called beauty market, it is nothing but exposure of women’s anatomy to lure buyers to products. It is an economic activity that hovers around the red line of morality and the country’s laws.

Some companies have mastered the art of using women’s anatomy instead of trying to find healthier ways to promote their products. This is reflective of their moral and philosophical bankruptcy.

Since the business environment is far from being smooth because of the economic downturn, businesspeople have to use their innovative ideas and wisdom, rather than women’s bodies, to solicit business and recover from the economic slowdown. The urgent task now is to establish an innovative economy to face the upcoming challenges.
