New tech achievemen­ts on display at conference

Guests and visitors will see a large numberof technologi­cal achievemen­ts at the third World Internet Conference, according to a leading official of Zhejiang province.

“The achievemen­ts cover advanced technologi­es and products in cyberspace, aiming to show how the internet will develop and what innovation­s will lead the world,” said Lai Yingjie, executive deputy director of Zhejiang’s publicity department.

The release of the achievemen­ts is scheduled to take place on the afternoon of the opening day of the conference, which will run fromWednes­day toFriday inWuzhen, a historical town in the province, according to Lai.

He said that the achievemen­ts refer to global leading technologi­es and theories.

“We will organize 116 enterprise­s to display their achievemen­ts during the conference, providing more opportunit­ies for visitors to see them and try them out,” he said.

Ren Xianliang, deputy director of the Cyberspace Administra­tion of China, said that more than 400 achievemen­ts from more than 300 businesses and academic institutio­ns from home and abroad have been submitted to the conference as candidates, such as Microsoft Corp, IBM Corp and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

“All the candidates are being reviewed by a panel of well-known scientists, and the ones that will be unveiled at the conference will have passed a strict selection process,” Ren said.

Wang Sixin, a law professor specializi­ng in cybersecur­ity at the Communicat­ion University of China, said that he is looking forward to seeing the achievemen­ts.

“I want to know how technology will bring us to the future and what contributi­ons the internet will make,” Wang said. “I’mintereste­d in the innovation­s.”

Li Yuxiao, secretary-general of the Cybersecur­ity Associatio­n of China, agreed. He suggested the release of such achievemen­ts should be a regular event at the annual conference.

Almost 1,100 volunteers, selected from 15 colleges in Zhejiang, are ready to serve guests from around the world, Lai said, adding that they are good at 10 languages, such as English, Japanese and Spanish.

“We are also providing a special smartphone applicatio­n for the conference,” Lai said.

Sheng Yongjun, mayor of Tongxiang, where Wuzhen is located, said that the town will become more informatio­nalized. “People will continue to enjoy free Wi-Fi and the speed will be faster.”
