Ice, snow-based fun helps expand frozen land’s winter activities

Shenyang, Liaoning province is taking natural ice and snow as the starting point for its tourism development initiatives, expanding the popularity of related activities by stirring up enthusiasm for the freezing weather.

The city is holding an international tourism festival and international ice and snow festival from 2017 to March 2018, creating a lively winter tourism season for the public and tourists alike.

Yan Shouzhu, deputy director of the Shenyang Tourism Committee, said: “We work closely with industries that relate to the activities of the season and with areas within the Shenyang Economic Zone. The committee has launched more than 100 tourism activities for domestic and overseas tourists visiting the city.”

The Shenyang winter tourism festival will spread the culture and traditional spirit of the season, forming a regional tourism model with multi-industry integration.

The main activity is ice and snow tourism.

Shenyang’s Qipan Mountain is the main focus and the plan also includes ski resorts across the northeastern region. In these venues, the festival will provide various entertainment, including traditional activities such as skating, skiing, ice slides, and driving vehicles on the snow road.

Yet further entertainment options combine tourism with culture, sports, business, folk customs, catering, hot springs and other industries, offering enjoyable characteristic activities involving ice and snow culture, ice and snow hot springs, and ice and snow food, among other activities.

An official from the Shenyang Tourism Committee said that the Shenyang ice and snow festival not only provides colorful activities for locals, but can also attract more and more foreign tourists to the city.
