Members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee must take an active role in working hard to serve the people and boost clean governance, General Secretary Xi Jinping said after his recent reviews of their work reports.

It is the first time that the top officials of the 25-member Political Bureau reported their work to Xi after the adoption of a CPC regulation late last year.

Under the regulation, which aims to enhance the centralized and unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee, Political Bureau members have to submit annual work reports to the general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

Xi reviewed their reports and made requirements regarding their duties and improving work styles. The Political Bureau of the 19th CPC Central Committee has the great trust of the whole Party, the whole country, and people of all ethnicities, and they have great leadership responsibilities, Xi said.

Xi urged the members of the Political Bureau to stay true to their original goals, keep their missions firmly in mind, work for the people, have the courage to take responsibility and boost clean governance.

In their work reports, the Political Bureau members gave accounts of how they fulfilled their duties in the past year, summarized their experiences, analyzed problems and put forward measures to improve their performance.

The content of the leading officials’ work reports mainly covers seven topics, including safeguarding the unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

Political Bureau members vowed to take a leading role to strengthen the Four Consciousnesses — to enhance political integrity, develop a better understanding of the general picture, follow the core leadership of the Central Committee and act consistent with CPC Central Committee policy.

Safeguarding the authority of the CPC Central Committee with Xi at the core and its centralized and unified leadership must be the highest political principle and fundamental political rule, the Political Bureau members said.

They pledged to follow the Party’s political path, abide by the political discipline and rules and keep consistent with the CPC Central Committee’s political stance, direction, principles and path.

The senior officials vowed to take a leading role in learning, publicizing and implementing Xi Jinping Thought and the spirit of the Party’s 19th National Congress last year.

It has been the top political task to study, publicize and implement the spirit of the Party’s 19th National Congress following its conclusion in October, Political Bureau members said.

The leading officials pledged to carry forward relevant rules on reporting major issues, brief the CPC Central Committee and Xi about the situation of implementing the Party’s decisions in a timely manner, report their major issues and major works to the CPC Central Committee and Xi and to be loyal and honest to the Party.

They made commitments to uphold democratic centralism, practice democracy in the areas administrated by them, make decisions in accordance with relevant procedures and practice criticism and self-criticism in a frank manner.

The Political Bureau members vowed to play a leading role in implementing the decisions of the CPC Central Committee, push forward the Party’s and country’s work and effectively prevent and resolve risks and challenges.

They pledged to carry out research on issues that are of concern of the CPC Central Committee, the people or related to economic and social development.

They vowed to uphold the Party’s people-centered philosophy, remain modest in their work, abide by the eight-point frugality rules and oppose formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and extravagance.

The leading officials also made commitments to practice clean governance, keep an eye on the behavior of their family members and oppose privilege in thoughts and deed.

While Xi reviewed the work reports of the Political Bureau members, he has not only raised the general standards but also made special comments to each of them.
