School encourages research, creates employment opportunit­ies

The University of Science and Technology of China has a broad range of academic discipline­s covering natural sciences, engineerin­g, management and emerging interdisci­plinary fields.

The university has recently released its latest recruitmen­t plan and has announced employment opportunit­ies across all discipline­s, aimed at enhancing USTC’s strengths in engineerin­g and high technology, such as future internet, and advanced manufactur­ing.

USTC has a long history of creating an interactiv­e and supportive environmen­t for researcher­s and offers the most competitiv­e research incentives of all the C9 League universiti­es of China.

Scholars hired through the recruitmen­t programs will receive high salaries, as well as assistance in establishi­ng their own dedicated research teams.

The latest package includes ample research funds, newly renovated offices, laboratory space and plenty of research assistants. Spacious housing, subsidized faculty dining, and premium medical services are also offered among other benefits.

In 2008, the country’s top authoritie­s initiated a recruitmen­t program for global experts, known as the Thousand Talents Plan, to bring in top overseas profession­als to the Chinese mainland in the following years.

The university’s recruitmen­t programs include many positions aligned with the Thousand Talents Plan.

The full-time Thousand Talents Plan professors­hip program aims to recruit worldclass scholars under the age of 55 as full-time professors at USTC.

Applicants need to have worked either as professors or in equivalent positions in world-renowned universiti­es or research institutio­ns.

The part-time Thousand Talents Plan professors­hip is designed to attract world-class scholars under the age of 60 as part-time professors at USTC.

Applicants need to have worked either as professors or in equivalent positions in world-renowned universiti­es or research institutio­ns, and will spend part of their time conducting research at USTC.

As a component of the Thousand Talents Plan, the Thousand Talents Plan for Young Talents is targeted at young scholars under the age of 40.

For this recruitmen­t program, applicants need to have obtained a doctoral degree in a world-renowned overseas university and have at least three years of overseas research experience.

Special offers will be granted to those who have insufficie­nt post-doctoral research experience but have made remarkable research achievemen­ts in their doctoral studies or in other areas.

For the Hundred Talents Plan of Young Talents, which is supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, applicants should have no more than five years of post-doctoral research experience, and need to have produced outstandin­g research achievemen­ts with exceptiona­l insights and creativity as well as be visible globally in related research areas.

For the Changjiang Scholars Plan, supported by the Ministry of Education, the applicants should be under 45 years old if they specialize in natural sciences, and under 50 years old for those focused on humanities and social sciences.

There are also two types of master chair professor positions. One is designed for distinguis­hed scholars that are highly influentia­l in their research fields and are interested in long-term collaborat­ions with USTC through regular short-term visits.

They are expected to build up internatio­nal connection­s for the university with prestigiou­s overseas research institutio­ns, and expand the global vision and visibility of USTC.

The other type of master chair professor positions is designed for distinguis­hed scholars that are highly influentia­l in their research fields, and are interested in longterm collaborat­ions with USTC through short-term visits.

They are expected to initiate and lead projects that involve USTC scholars or students as well as provide critical leadership to the project team.

There are also regular contract positions for research professors and associate professors, and regular two-year positions for post-doctoral researcher­s and internatio­nal visiting professor positions.
