WHAT’S HER SECRET?
These ladies seem to be growing younger every year! Closer asked top pros why
This Cut & Color Boosts Volume
Flat color and a limp bob put a spotlight on the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum’s fine, thin strands three years ago. But the depth of a golden-brown ear-length crop with sun-kissed highlights gave her strands an instant boost, says Matrix hairstylist George Papanikolas, who’s worked with Salma Hayek and Ellen Pompeo. To copy Gabrielle’s look, ask your stylist for a short shag that’s longer in the back with side bangs in front. Then apply the base color of an all-in-one coloring kit (we like L’Oréal Paris Multi-Tonal Color System in #7.0-Biscotti, $15, ulta.com) from root to tip and let sit 25 minutes; rinse and dry hair. Next, paint highlights onto half-inch sections and let sit 30 minutes; rinse.
Oatmeal Restores Radiance
The reason Phylicia’s skin looked weathered in 2014? “Skin-cell turnover rate slows with age, causing dead cells to build up on skin for a bumpy texture,” says dermatologist Kenneth Mark, M.D., who works with celebrities in his New York City practice. For smooth skin and a gorgeous glow like the actress has now, reach for oatmeal. “It’s a gentle exfoliant that sloughs off dead skin cells and an anti-inflammatory that reduces irritation.” Bonus: Regular exfoliation stimulates collagen production to minimize fine lines and wrinkles. To do: Massage a dime-sized amount of an oatmeal scrub (we like St. Ives Nourished & Smooth Oatmeal Scrub + Mask, $3, target.com) onto your face in circular motions; rinse. Repeat twice a week for results in three weeks.
Taupe Shadow Brightens Eyes
The Emerald City star looks younger at 52 than she did at 50! The small change that made a big difference: She ditched the unflattering rust-brown eye shadow. “The color clashed with her complexion, and placing it on the bottom lash line made her eyes look small and tired,” says makeup artist Brandy GomezDuplessis, who’s worked with Allison Janney and Angela Bassett. Joely’s current taupe eye shadow is a more neutral shade that complements all skin tones, and GomezDuplessis says the softer the color, the larger the eye looks. Simply sweep the shadow (we like MAC Eye Shadow in Satin Taupe, $16, nordstrom.com) across the lids up to the crease, then apply two coats of volumizing mascara for an eye-popping finish.
