HELLOS & GOODBYES
WEDDING BELLS
Sunday best! On Sunday, May 28, Shameless star Emmy
Rossum, 30, married Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail,
39, in a NYC ceremony attended by her co-star William H. Macy as well as Robert Downey Jr. and Hilary Swank. Also that day, Lost alum Maggie Grace,
33, married boyfriend Brent Bushnell in Ojai, Calif. Meanwhile, The Talk’s Sharon Osbourne, 64, and heavy metal husband Ozzy, 68, announced they had renewed their vows earlier in May.
VIVA LAS VELVET
I want you, I need you, I buy you. On May 27, a private jet once owned by Elvis Presley sold at auction for $430,000…and the collector must have been a really king-sized fan. Although GWS Auctions Inc. says the custom 1962 Lockheed Jetstar was “in original condition” (complete with red-velvet seats, shag carpeting and wood paneling), it doesn’t have engines, the cockpit needs to be restored and it’s been sitting on a runaway in Roswell, N.M., for the past 35 years.
ANCHOR AWAY
This just in. On May 30, it was reported that Scott
Pelley, 59, was being replaced as anchor of CBS Evening News and being moved into a fulltime role on the venerable newsmagazine 60 Minutes. Scott has sat behind the desk since taking over from Katie Couric in 2011. Senior national correspondent Anthony Mason, 60, will step in as interim anchor until the network decides upon Scott’s permanent replacement.
MEGYN AGAIN
In other news, in preparation for the launch of her weekly NBC newsmagazine show, Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly, journalist
Megyn Kelly, 46, admitted life is going to be a little different compared to her days on Fox News. “This is an opportunity to be much more well-rounded as a human being and as an anchor,” she explained. “[Cable news is] “just like, ‘Swim, for the love of God, swim!’ It’s always drinking from the fire hose.”
WILLIE RUN?
He could’ve been the redheaded politician. After selling all those shirts, mugs and bumper stickers touting “Willie Nelson for President,” country legend
Willie Nelson, 84, recently admitted he has indeed contemplated an actual run for the White House. “Oh, yeah, which makes me even more glad that I didn’t. I came close a couple times. And then I sobered up,” Willie quipped. “[Besides] I think you can do more with music than you can with arguments and politics. I think a song will reach more people than any other thing.”
FAREWELLS
Happy trails. On May 24, actor Jared Martin, best known as cowboy Dusty Farlow on
Dallas, passed away at 75. Then, on May 26,
Zbigniew Brzezinski,
Jimmy Carter’s national security adviser and father to MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski, died at age 89. Also, Frank Deford, famed sportswriter, NPR commentator and author of Everybody’s All-American, passed on May 28 at 78. Finally, on May 30, Elena
Verdugo, who played nurse Consuelo Lopez on Marcus Welby, M.D., died. She was 92.
