Subway Riders Save the Day

Jerich Marco Alcantara was stuck on the subway when he should have been accepting his college degree.

A brake failure caused the E train to be delayed for 90 minutes while the 22-year-old was on his way to the Hunter College commencement ceremony at NYC’s Radio City Music Hall, so his fellow passengers pulled together an impromptu ceremony complete with a picture of a diploma on a cellphone for the nursing student, who was a good sport. “Not everyone gets to have a commencement in a train,” he cracked.
