Rita Hayworth’s ’40s-era orange frock is back!

Everything old is new again! Stars channel Rita Hayworth in fall’s pumpkin-toned dresses

Known for playing sultry socialites like Doña Sol in Blood and Sand and Virginia in The Strawberry Blonde, Rita Hayworth quickly became one of the hottest stars of the ’40s. And while she stunned on-screen, it was her offscreen fashion that left a lasting impression. “Rita had a mature style that was glamorous yet relatable — every woman wanted to be her,” says stylist Eric Himel, who has dressed Jenny McCarthy and Ali Larter. “She knew how to complete her look by opting for colors, like orange, that complemented her fiery hair and milky complexion.”

So it’s a treat to see today’s stars stepping out in pumpkin-hued dresses just like Rita once did! What the screen siren knew? A sleeveless silhouette with a plunging neck and nipped-in waist carves out an alluring hourglass to ensure the brighter hue doesn’t overwhelm the body.

Holly Hunter, 59

The Saving Grace alum may be closing in on 60, but she looks as youthful as ever! Subtle gathering at the waist of her Urban Zen dress skims over bumps (if she has any!) and the dark-orange hue blends beautifully with her glowing skin. A long lariat necklace elongates her look and glittery platforms add sass!

Suki Waterhouse, 25

With its fussy frills, body-widening flowy pleats and bulk-adding belly ruching, the young British model’s Fendi dress leaves her looking more gourdlike than gorgeous. Plus, the lighter shade of orange imparts an odd brassy tinge on her arms and legs.

Jennifer Lawrence, 27

Leg-lengthening silver strappies? Sexy! Too bad it’s all downhill for the Hunger Games star from there. A boxy Dior tuxedo dress hides her waist, large pockets add optical pounds to her hips and the bright neon hue is too stark against her fair skin and platinum locks.
