Amy’s Sharp Turn
For Amy Adams, the hardest part of playing a self-destructive reporter probing a pair of child murders in her Missouri hometown in the eightepisode drama Sharp Objects wasn’t having her body covered with prosthetic scars. (Her character is a “cutter.”) It was the psychologically painful scenes she had to play with Patricia Clarkson as her devious mother. “She just keeps going back to the same well and drawing the same poison water,” Amy says of Patricia’s character. “That’s so common and it’s [so] hard to talk about.”
