Affordable Food for All
If you’ve ever imagined a food store with no
price tags, your dream has come true. On June 16, celebrity chef Jagger Gordon opened Feed It Forward in Toronto, billed as “the world’s first pay-what-youcan bakery, coffee and grocery store.” The idea, he says, is to show how we can “utilize food that’s destined for landfills: perfectly edible food that can be filling the empty bellies of our citizens.” Groceries, restaurants and other businesses donate overstocked items, edible but misshapen or bruised produce and goods close to their expiration date.
