Doris Day Que sera, sera! Subsequent to Doris Martin’s many dogged pursuits, Hollywood icon Doris, 96, decided to devote herself to dogs and other furry friends. She started the Doris Day Animal Foundation and hosted her own talk show, Doris Day’s Best Friends. As Doris tells Closer, “I’ve been blessed with good health, wonderful pals, lovely fans and so many precious four-leggers. What more can I ask for?”

Denver Pyle 1920-1997 Doris’ dad, Buck, had his hands full raising chickens on his farm; but Denver had no trouble dealing with Boss Hogg as Uncle Jesse on The Dukes of Hazzard. He reprised his role as Briscoe Darling in the TV pic Return to Mayberry before passing away from lung

cancer on Christmas Day in ’97.

Philip Brown

While Doris’ sports-loving son, Billy, had difficulty studying fractions, Philip, 60, got a number of opportunities for himself on TV — appearing in commercials and landing recurring roles on such soapy shows as Search for Tomorrow, The Colbys and Knots Landing.

James Hampton

After playing handyman Leroy, James, 82, nailed down some memorable parts, including Caretaker in The Longest Yard and Harold Howard in the Teen Wolf franchise. He also appeared in pics from Hawmps! to Sling Blade and got into

directing, starting on TV’s Evening Shade. Todd Starke

1961-1983 Sadly, following his three seasons as Doris’ younger son, Toby,

Todd never had a chance to follow up with more roles as he died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Said Philip, “I do miss him. He was a lot of fun and did look up to me. He was like the brother I never had.”
