THROUGH GOOD TIMES AND BAD, THE COUPLE STAYS STRONG BY FOCUSING ON WHAT MATTERS MOST

- Lisa Chambers

The longtime couple keeps their relationship strong by focusing on family — and fun!

Goldie Hawn knows how to stay upbeat, even in the toughest times. The Oscar-winning funny girl and her longtime love, Kurt Russell, have been cooped up at home like all of us, but Goldie feels “very lucky and incredibly grateful” for all that she has — especially her loving family. “They live very close and we do a lot of social distancing,” says the star, who enjoys having her kids and grandkids over for meals. She even makes cleaning up fun. “Washing dishes doesn’t have to be a chore,” she enthuses. “It can be a dance! It’s all up to us.”

That kind of attitude — not to mention a little yoga and lots of laughter — has helped Goldie, who turns 75 in November, and Kurt, 69, to stay happy and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic, just as it’s helped them weather some rough patches in their 37-year relationship. In fact, their love has only gotten stronger. “They’ve been smart about who each other is, from the beginning,” a friend of the couple tells

Closer. “They let each other be and are not clingy. This quarantining has made them closer and more appreciative of each other. They rarely argue about anything. ”

Of course, it helps that they’re living in the dream house they built together in Los Angeles and moved into in 2017. “It’s their sanctuary,” confides the insider. “They used feng shui and they made the floors soft to the touch because they are barefoot a lot. All the colors reflect nature. Their home gives them a true sense of peace.”

They’ve certainly earned it. “Goldie and I are in real terms no different than any other couple, we go through all the same things,” Kurt says. They’ve endured rough patches over the years, but now, “We’ve come out the other side.” Adds the insider, “They are best friends and know that life is better with each other than without.”

ENJOYING LIFE

Together they are riding out the 2020 crises. “When I wake up, Kurt brings me coffee, which is just the sweetest, and it starts the day off great,” says Goldie. “We have breakfast with the kids and sit around and talk. Kurt, who calls his love his “guiding light,” has taken up meditation with Goldie, whose foundation created MindUP, a mindfulness program to help kids manage stress. “She’s been getting him into it for the first time in a big way, which she’s so excited about,” the insider says.

In addition to meditating, watching movies and doing yoga (“Goldie holds family classes,” the insider says), the couple has been staying in shape by going hiking and biking. “They still love getting away together, just the two of them or as a family.”

It’s likely the whole brood — including their kids, Oliver, 44, Kate, 41, Wyatt, 34, and their six grandchildren — will get together to watch Kurt and Goldie’s upcoming Netflix movie, The Christmas Chronicles: Part 2, in which they play Santa and Mrs. Claus.

“Laughter is so important,” Goldie says. “Even in the most difficult of times, a laugh can go a long way toward making you feel better.” —

“As scary as this time is, I try to savor every moment because I get to be with my family.”
