WELCOMES LILIBET

PRINCE HARRY AND MEGHAN’S LITTLE GIRL CASTS A RAY OF SUNSHINE IN A DIFFICULT YEAR

- —Reporting by Natalie Posner

Before his new baby was born, Prince Harry called his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, to get her permission to call his daughter Lilibet Diana. The name was meant to honor Her Majesty and Harry’s mother, the late Princess Diana.

Some have suggested it would have been more appropriate if Harry and Meghan, who gave birth to their daughter on June 4, named the child Elizabeth instead of using the queen’s childhood nickname, but the monarch appreciated the tribute. “She feels it’s a nice gesture,” says a royals source. “This birth is one of the few bright spots in a horrendous year for the queen.”

Indeed, after the death of her husband, Prince Philip, Harry’s public criticism of the family, and the fight against the pandemic, welcoming her 11th greatgrandchild has been an immense pleasure for Elizabeth, 95. “The queen was sent photos of Lilibet the day she was born,” the insider confides. “Harry and Meghan have also already had a video call with her so she could meet Lili. It made the queen’s day. She thinks Lili is the most beautiful baby.”

HEALING WOUNDS

The gesture gave Elizabeth hope that Harry and Meghan will always be part of the family. “Despite the fighting and feuds, it shows that Harry still has the upmost respect for the queen,” notes the insider.

It’s hoped that Harry — and possibly Meghan, the baby and Archie, 2 — will make the trip to London for the July 1 unveiling of a new statue of Princess Diana on what would have been her 60th birthday. “The queen is very much looking forward to seeing them,” says the insider, “and meeting her namesake in person.”
