A. Robert Bernstein ( Bob) 88, loving husband, father and grandfathe­r, formerly of Easton and Bridgeport, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018 in Madison, WI. Born in New York, NY, he moved to Bridgeport as a young child with his parents, the late Philip and Eugenia Bernstein, and brother, the late Mortimer Bernstein, when his father started Venus Lingerie. He was pre deceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, artist Dorothy Ann Bernstein ( Snyderman), in 2014. Mr. Bernstein, a proud United States Army Veteran, graduated from Bradford Durfee Technical Institute ( now UMass Dartmouth) and held an MS in business from Columbia University. He worked during his lifetime as an Industrial Engineer and management consultant at a number of major corporatio­ns including Sikorsky, Electric Boat, Ford, Benrus Watch, Gant Shirtmaker­s, Consolidat­ed Foods, and Polycrome Corporatio­n, Ray Nelson Associates, with his final work years spent at the Norwalk Board of Education. A voracious reader and supporter of charities and community organizati­ons, he enjoyed working with his wife on her art, including creating the woodwork for her prized nutcracker­s, and building stone walls. His passion was sailing; he was a member of Fayerweath­er Yacht Club. He is survived by his devoted daughters, Corinne Gilarsky and her husband Bruce of Sparks, MD, Leslie Bernstein and her spouse Grace Cooper of Stoughton, WI, and Robin Bernstein of New York, NY. Mr. Bernstein is also survived by his adored grandchild­ren, Sarah Gilarsky ( Timothy Sullivan), Melanie Gilarsky, Elijah Bernstein- Cooper, and by his sisters- in- law, Beatrice Bernstein and Joyce Joseph as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Sunday, September 23, 2018, at 10: 00 a. m. directly at Rodeph Sholom Memorial Park on Kings Highway in Fairfield, CT. Contributi­ons in A. Robert Bernstein’s name may be made for scholarshi­ps at The Leo Baeck Education Center in Haifa, Israel, leobaeckha­ifa. org, a charity he supported for over 30 years.
