Lawton, Abramson combine on no- hitter

STRATFORD — Sarah Lawton came on in relief to get the final two outs in the seventh inning with the bases full of Masschuset­ts Drifters to finish off a combined no- hitter with Abby Abramson as the Stratford Brakettes completed a sweep with a 2- 1 win on Saturday at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field. Abramson ( 3- 0) went 61⁄

3 innings before an error and three walks made the score 2- 1. With rain falling, Lawton came in to record a strikeout before a Drifters runner was caugh trying to steal home. Abramson struck out eight.

Briana Marcelino’s tworun double produced both Brakettes runs in the third inning.

The Brakettes scored 11 runs in the first inning of the opener on eight hits and coasted to a five- inning, 16- 1 victory. Kaysee Talcik tossed a three- hitter and struck out 10 to raise her record to 3- 0.

Val Suto, Gretchen Bunovsky, and Emma Larke both had three hits, while Marcelino and Rebecca Findley had two hits each. Lauren Pitney and Findley drove in three runs and Suto and Larke had two RBI.

The Stratford Brakettes ( 13- 0) host the Concord ( Mass.) Raiders Sunday in a 4 p. m. doublehead­er.

In Saturday’s first doublehead­er, the Junior Brakettes ( 5- 4) won their fifth straight by sweeping the CT Eliminator­s 18+ by scores of 11- 3 and 6- 5 in nine innings. Claire McCann picked up the win with three scoreless relief innings in the comefrom- behind win, while Maddy Procyk was in control in the opener.

The Junior Brakettes face the Drifters Sunday at 10 a. m. in a twin- bill.
