Ruth Kobren, of Bridgeport, CT., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 in her home. She was 99. Mrs. Kobren was born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah Spevack, and was predecease­d by her beloved husband Dr. Abraham Kobren and son Robert. Mrs. Kobren is survived by her children, Susan Morrison and her husband, Dr. Murray Morrison, Dr. Leonard Kobren and his wife Barbara, Roberta Simon and her husband Mark, her grandchild­ren, Jennifer Kanfer, Sarah Kleinhandl­er, Adam Kobren, Benjamin Kobren, Lauren Simon O’Brien, and by her 8 great- grandchild­ren, Noah, Rebecca, Abbe, Lila, Samuel, Zeke, Sadie and Lucy. Ruth was a woman of the “Greatest Generation”. She was raised in Carlstadt, NJ and graduated from Douglass College ( Rutgers University) in 1941. Ruth married and supported her husband’s service in WWII and after the war, helped him forge a successful dental career in White Plains, NY while raising their three children. She was active in the

White Plains community becoming a committed volunteer at the White Plains Hospital as director of their gift shop. Her passion for helping others was highlighte­d by decades of her work with Hadassah, serving as the president of the White Plains Chapter. After her husband retired as Dean of Admissions at NYU School of Dentistry, they moved to Bridgeport, CT where she continued to support Hadassah for many years. Ruth was an extraordin­ary woman-loving wife, devoted mother, adoring grandmothe­r, and great- grandmothe­r. She was a kind, caring, and compassion­ate woman who touched the lives of everyone she met. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 24, 2020 at Sharon Gardens Cemetery in Valhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local chapter of Hadassah.
