Life on the Housatonic
Home inspired owner to pen poem ‘ Morning on the River’
“The trees on the river Seem giddy today. As if the wind whispered A funny punchline Causing leaves to flutter Up and down Like a hearty belly laugh.”
It is life along the Housatonic River, in this waterfront townhouse at Water’s Edge that inspired the owner to pen the poem, “Morning on the River,” along with many others. Water’s Edge is an exceptional community situated on the banks of the Housatonic, affording an idyllic waterfront lifestyle where owners enjoy kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing and carefree, river living.
“The long driveway off River Road is like coming home to a remote private vacation venue,” said the owner. A HOBI award winner for the “Best Townhouse in Fairfield County,” Water’s Edge is home to only 15 luxurious residences. Privacy abounds as across the river are woods and a golf course, with no other houses in sight.
“The amazing views of the river are seen from the living, dining room, kitchen, walkout basement and our bedroom,” said the owner. “Each provides a unique perspective of living on the river. I will miss the river, luckily, I have written many poems to capture the beauty of the river to take with me.”
Quality, comfort and luxury were paramount in the design of this elegant townhome graced with oak floors, detailed moldings and high- end finishes. The threebedroom, four bath residence features 2,934 square feet of finely appointed living space, beautifully designed for easy living and seamless entertaining.
“We were immediately drawn to the opportunity to live on the water's edge, seeing these amazing views every day, the exquisite craftsmanship of the moldings, the floor plan and the peaceful setting,” the owner explained.
The river has served as an ongoing source of entertainment, recreation and enjoyment for the owners.
“Living by the river, you learn about nature,” the owner explained. “This part of the Housatonic is a tidal river, so you will see the river reverse its flow. The birdwatching is incredible, with egrets, blue herons, ducks and swans, as well as eagles. We keep our binoculars and bird books handy for when we spot an unusual bird we cannot identify.”
The inviting Great room is highlighted by a fireplace, builtins, formal dining area and crown moldings. Sliding glass doors extend the living space to the riverfront deck, an ideal spot to enjoy morning coffee or afternoon cocktails while taking in the scenic backdrop and sparkling water views. The Great room is open to striking kitchen which is a showcase of style among granite counters, island with breakfast bar, additional bar seating, pantry and stainlesssteel appliances.
A guest bedroom is conveniently located on the main level.
On the upper level, the master suite offers a zen- like paradise among a vaulted ceiling, river views and luxurious spa bath with soaking tub, oversized walkin shower and private water closet. A third bedroom enjoys a walk- in closet and access to a Jack and Jill bath that also opens to the hallway.
The finished lower level offers a variety of options with living space that can be used for entertaining, a recreation room, exercise area or media room as well as a full bath. Sliding glass doors open to a large bluestone patio to enjoy a covered outdoor space for relaxing or entertaining near the water’s edge.
