When the owners of 24 Cherry Gate Lane set out to build their home, they began by choosing a twoplus- acre parcel on a cul- de- sac in the Nichols area of Trumbull. The choice of neighborhood was paramount in the owner’s decision.

“We knew that we wanted to raise our children in this community,” the owner said.

“We chose Nichols because it is a very close- knit community with the unique Nichols Improvement Association as its hub,” the owner explained. This non- profit community organization provides activities for every age, from a Halloween parade to wine tastings, a seasonal farmer’s market, Christmas tree lighting and children’s summer camp. The Association’s 40 pristine acres include a pond, meadow, baseball fields and the historic Starkweather House, which serves as a gathering place.

In designing the home and grounds, the owners carefully situated the home in the center of the property, surrounded by the privacy of the mature woodlands and views of the meticulously landscaped grounds, which provide color and interest in every season.

Grace and elegance abound throughout all four levels of the stucco- clad home, whose 6,698 square feet offer ample space for comfortable living and entertaining. An impressive doubledoor entry opens into an expansive three- story tiled foyer with a two- story arched window, stunning chandelier, three- story staircase and wide plank white oak hardware floors. To the left, the dining room features a bay window and French doors to a private stone patio surrounded by beautiful specimen trees. To the right is a handsome library with coffered ceiling, built- ins and marble gas fireplace.

The heart of the home lies in the dramatic kitchen which is open to the third floor and features a two- story composite window which takes full advantage of the southern exposure and fills the space with light. A 12- foot island with granite, custom wet bar that includes two Fisher & Paykel dishwasher draws for entertaining, chef's- grade appliances, walk in pantry and generous dining area leave nothing to be desired.

The great room sits directly off the kitchen and is highlighted by a floor- to- ceiling stone fireplace with bluestone hearth, 8- foot arched windows and 14- foot tray ceiling. The sunroom flows from the great room and kitchen with a large bow window and French doors to the deck.

On the upper level, the master bedroom suite is a private retreat among high tray ceilings, a marble gas fireplace and sliders to a private upper deck. The relaxing master bath is a true escape among an open shower with Moen programmable shower system with six shower heads, a two- person Jacuzzi with a limestone surround and radiant heat tile flooring. There is an en suite bedroom and two more bedrooms sharing a jack and jill bath, along with a loft studio and laundry room.

The third floor includes a soundproof media room or home office option and additional bedroom.

The exquisitely finished lower level features a recreation/ playroom with floor- to- ceiling stone gas fireplace, natural cork flooring, floor- to- ceiling windows, a built- in projection system, full bath and double French doors to a large stone patio and bedroom.

“The multiple indoor and outdoor spaces provided the perfect venue for our guests, children and their friends no matter what the occasion,” said the owner. “We will miss our annual Super

Bowl party that easily accommodated fifty or more guests each January. Our home was the hub of our children’s friends’ many activities, from practicing lacrosse on the back lawn, to movie nights in the basement, to pasta dinners before a cross- country meet.”
