Joyce Bertrand Abbott

-

Joyce Bertrand Abbott died peacefully at home on December 30, 2020. Born on November 28, 1938 to Helen Polowich and Charles Bertrand, the eldest daughter in a family of six. Incredibly proud of her family and being from the south end of Bridgeport, she attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and then Bassick High School.

She started her family ( her proudest accomplishment) early and went on to have six children. Working while she raised her family, she was a waitress at many well know restaurants in the area before opening M. J. Thomas Jewelers in 1976. A staple at M. J. Thomas Jewelers for over 40 years, Joyce brought a touch of home to the store, treating clients like they were family and making many friends along the way.

A lover of life, she lived with an open heart, a deep love of people, and a childish spirit. She enjoyed her family and spending time with them, traveling, music, Broadway, the casino and cleaning. She will be remembered for her huge heart, fi erce love of her family, bright smile, acceptance, frankness, honesty, benevolence, unselfi shness, and strength.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband Dick Abbott, six children - Frank Carloni, Charles Carloni, Dawn Carloni, Thomas Abbott, Michael Abbott and

Jaimie Abbott- Kennedy; seven grandchildren ( including her Sarah); fi ve great- grandchildren; her loving sister and best friend, Catherine Bertrand Peloquin, one brother and many nieces and nephews.

Her presence in our lives made us better.
