Stephen J. Schweighof­fer, 88, of Wallingfor­d, formerly of Fairfield, died on December 29, 2020 at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born in Papakovacs­i Hungary to Terez Arki and Mihaly Schweighof­fer, he immigrated to Fairfield in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution against communism. Steve was employed as a machinist for many years in the Fairfield and Bridgeport area and was employed by the Town of Fairfield until his retirement in 1999. He was a parishione­r of Saint Emery’s Church Fairfield and Saint Bridget’s Church Cheshire. Steve was an active member of Saint Emery’s Church and School assisting at many dances, picnics and other fundraiser­s. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, School PTO, and Senior Citizen’s Club there. Steve enjoyed his family, spiritual life, and music. He was married to the late Sandra Pekar for 57 years. He is survived by his two devoted sons Eric of Southingto­n and Joseph of Cheshire and his loving daughter Jill Bishop and her husband John of Wallingfor­d. He was a proud grandfathe­r to four grandchild­ren, Emma and Liam Bishop of Wallingfor­d, and Alexandra and Nadia Schweighof­fer of

Cheshire. He also leaves behind several cherished nieces and one nephew. Due to covid- 19 restrictio­ns, there will be no calling hours. Per the family’s wishes, a mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint Emery’s Church and interment at Lawncroft Cemetery will be private.
