Among architectural historians, Sir Edwin Lutyens was widely held to be England’s greatest architect since Sir Christopher Wren if not, as many maintained, his superior. Historian Gavin Stamp described Lutyens as “surely the greatest British architect of the twentieth or of any other century.”

He designed many English country houses, war memorials and public buildings, and was instrumental in designing and building India’s new imperial capital of New Delhi.

It was one of Lutyens’ historic designs that was the inspiration for the magnificent residence of Orchard Hill Farm, a custom Georgian colonial manor house built to the owner’s specifications. This exquisite 19- room manor home is designed with emphasis on architectural details highlighted by custom mill work and builtins, solid mahogany doors and quarter sawn oak floors.

Just 56 miles from New York City, Redding is a bucolic, rural community known for its open space preserves, two state parks with over 1,000 acres, fine schools, historic past and vibrant community spirit.

A truly tranquil country escape, the property is comprised of four acres of manicured lawn, a 12- acre meadow with apple orchard and 10 acres of woodland. The grounds are complete with a walled garden with potting shed and apiary, an expansive blue stone terrace with an outdoor kitchen, and a post and beam party barn.

“There is such a sense of tranquility on these 26 acres on a private lane and away from a main road,” said the owners.

A gated entry welcomes guests to the stately grounds, graced with formal gardens, reminiscent of the English countryside. Inside, the 9,646- square- foot residence is brimming with exceptional quality and craftsmanship, beginning with the formal entry foyer with airlock vestibule. The foyer opens into the formal living room, featuring tall spans of windows, built- ins and one of the home’s six fireplaces.

One of the owner’s favorite spaces in the home is the elegant dining room whose walls are beautifully adorned with a scenic hand- painted landscape mural based on the lyrics of “River” by American folk musician Bill Staines.

Another favorite space is the intimate paneled family room with French doors leading to the expansive stone terrace. A private library is finely appointed with elegant paneled walls, built- ins, window seats and fireplace.

Of course, in a home of this caliber, the chef's kitchen leaves nothing to be desired including a 14- foot center island, butler’s pantry, and dining area with Tulikivi soapstone baking oven and wood burning stove. The dining area opens to a delightful English Machin conservatory filled with glorious light.

A unique circular hall houses the main stairway to the upper level with a sitting room located at the top of the stairs. The luxurious primary suite offers peaceful respite with a sitting area and fireplace, alcove with built- ins, refined dual dressing rooms and primary bath with soaking tub and steam shower. Four additional en suite bedrooms offer ample space and privacy for family or guests. Enjoy a complete at- home workout in the second- floor gym with full bath. The home also offers the added versatility of an entertainment room and a large office or playroom.

Ideal for outdoor entertaining, the expansive bluestone terrace with outdoor kitchen overlooks the picturesque grounds and vibrant gardens. Stroll the grounds and come to the post and beam party barn, where festive affairs of any kind are just waiting to happen.
