Robert C. Bissonnette
September 10, 1930 - January 21, 2021Robert C. Bissonnette, 90 years old, of Hendersonville, North Carolina ( formerly of Trumbull, CT) passed away peacefully, January 21, 2021.
Robert was born September 10, 1930, in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Robert and Anna ( Davis) Bissonnette. He graduated from Sacred Heart University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business. Robert served three years with the U. S. Navy; 2 years of which was served during the Korean War aboard the aircraft carrier Valley Forge. After the Navy, he started what would become a lifelong career at Sikorsky Aircraft during which he first worked as an aircraft mechanic while working his way up to Program Chief of Design. During his last years at Sikorsky’s, Robert worked at Mitsubishi in Nagoya, Japan working as Engineering Manager for the Japanese Navy Sea- Hawk helicopter. Robert lived in Trumbull most of his life and served on the Trumbull Town Council for a period of time.
Upon retirement, Robert and his wife Joan moved to Hendersonville, NC where he became a Master Gem Faceter. His work, which included a replica of the Crown Jewels of England and the History of the Hope Diamond, are on display at the Hendersonville Lapidary and Mineral Museum.
Robert was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Joan ( Rich) Bissonnette. He is survived by his six children, Susan Filicko ( husband Richard), Robert Bissonnette ( wife Colleen), Mark Bissonnette ( wife Sarah), Paul Bissonnette, Joann Lapke ( husband Mark), and John Bissonnette ( wife Donna). Robert also leaves behind his 14 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull, CT. It was Roberts’s wish that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
