Rita M. Grassi, age 89, entered into eternal rest on February 3, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the loving and devoted wife of 57 years to the late Nicholas A. Grassi, Sr. Mrs. Grassi was born in Derby on February 19, 1931, daughter of the late Orazio and Christine DiGiovanni Miani. A resident of Ansonia since 1980, Rita was employed at the former Slim Fit Dress Company in Shelton and later at Bond Rubber in Derby. She then went on to work for the City of Bridgeport Board of Education at Roosevelt Elementary School, in the cafeteria, until her retirement. Rita was a communican­t of Holy Rosary Church where she served as a greeter. To all who were lucky enough to know her, Rita was full of life, love and was happiest surrounded by her family and enjoyed her monthly “cousins club” get together. She was warm and welcoming, a mom to everyone. Rita leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Nicholas A. Grassi II ( Carmen Diana) of Valdosta, GA, a daughter, Phyllis M. Grassi of Ansonia, a brother, Armando Miani of NY, a sister, Philomena DeMichele of Greenwich, grandchild­ren, Vanessa K. Grassi, Nicholas A. Grassi III, Mark R. Miller, Amy L. Miller, Christle M. Gavin and Rita M. Gavin, great- grandchild­ren, James M. Brown, Teresa C. Brown and Ella Miller as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predecease­d by her daughter, Teresa C. Miller, a brother, Leon Miani and grandson Frank

A contactles­s walkthroug­h visitation for family and friends will take place on Sunday ( TODAY), February 7, 2021 from 1: 00 p. m. to 3: 00 p. m. in the chapel of the SPINELLI- RICCIUTI/ BEDNAR- OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Visitors are asked to wear masks and social distance as they walk through to pay their respects and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through. On Monday all are welcome to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 10: 00 a. m. ( meeting directly) at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Interment will immediatel­y follow at Mount Saint Peter’s Cemetery in Derby. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons can be made in Rita’s Memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at www. stjude. org.
