Edward Schriffert

-

Edward Schriffert, age 80 of Stratford, CT, passed away on February 26th, 2021 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT. Edward was born in Quakertown, PA, a son of the late John and Helen Schriffert.

Ed grew up in Hellertown, PA. As a kid, he loved sports, especially basketball, which he played in high school. Ed also learned to play the saxophone and accordion, which he continued to play into his later years. He had a passion for science and went on to Muhlenberg College where he earned his degree in chemistry. He later moved to Connecticut to pursue a chemistry position with American Cyanamid.

Ed went on to have daughters Carol and Cheri, who both still reside nearby in Connecticut with their beautiful families.

Ed changed careers and decided to try retail where he eventually became the store manager for Caldor department store. This is where he met his future wife, Gail. He then moved into a computer programming role at Ansonia Copper and Brass. He also taught computer science as an adjunct professor for Sacred Heart University for 10 years. He later settled in as a technology specialist for the New Canaan Public School system, where he retired in 2017.

Ed and Gail married in 1983 and shared a wonderful 37 years of marriage, producing their son Dustin in 1991, and their daughter Tamara in 1997.

Ed loved to travel in his spare time, especially to warm tropical islands. He traveled with his family to Hawaii, the Caribbean, and multiple countries in Europe.

Ed picked up decorative cake baking in his later years. No holiday or occasion went without a special cake.

Mostly, Ed loved his family and was happiest when they were all gathered in one place. To get family and neighbors together, he would throw annual parties, often with fun themes to encourage everyone to relax and laugh together. Making others happy was what brought him joy.

Ed genuinely enjoyed participating and observing all the sports activities, dance recitals, choir concerts, Indian Guides activities, and anything his children or grandchildren were a part of.

His presence will be missed in all the future family gatherings.

Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Gail Schriffert of Stratford, CT, his devoted children; Carol Palmer and her husband Kirk Palmer of Ansonia, CT, Cheri Ross and her husband John Ross of Newtown, CT, Dustin Mandre and his wife Maris Mandre of Fairfield, CT, and Tamara Schriffert of Stratford, CT, his adored grandchildren; Matthew Palmer and his wife Samantha Palmer, Joseph Palmer, Angela Ross and her fiancé Cody Pereira, Christopher Palmer, Andrew Ross, and Jessica Palmer, and great- grandchild, Abigail Palmer.
