Irma L. Batt

-

Irma Batt, age 96, peacefully passed away March 5, 2021 in Bridgeport, CT. Irma was born and raised in New Haven, CT to the late Dora and Joseph Hourwitz. In 1941, she met the love of her life, Harold Batt. He was a young man from her neighborhood, and he agreed to buy 2 theatre tickets only if she would be his date. Irma waited six years for her soulmate to return from the War before they married in 1947. They moved to Philadelphia where Harold attended medical school. They eventually moved back to New Haven where they made their home and raised their children.

Irma was an active volunteer for philanthropic organizations including Meals on Wheels and the Urban League. She was an avid reader, golfer, and knitter. She loved playing canasta and bridge with her friends. Irma loved traveling the world with Harold and her family, and did so well into her 80’ s. Of all her travels, her seven trips to Israel were the most meaningful.

She will be remembered for her kindness and her large circle of friends. Her joy for life was evident to all, especially her family who noticed how her eyes would disappear when she smiled. Irma’s greatest pleasure and delight above all else was her devotion to her family. She especially loved the holidays. Her famous kugel will live on for generations to come.

In addition to her beloved husband, Irma is survived by two devoted children, Anita Rosnick ( Harold) of Easton, CT, and Charles Batt of Shelton, CT; two adoring grandchildren, Michael Rosnick ( Emily) and Jodi Ross ( Jason); five great grandchildren, Alexa, Aviva, Mickey, Harper and Poppy. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Claire Stamm and Bernice Foster.

A private funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 7th. To attend the service virtually, visit Irma’s Tribute page at www. greensfuneralhome. com.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to Congregation B’nai Torah in Trumbull, CT or a charity of your choice.
